Nevada Regulators Removing Illegally Operating Kalshi Market In a July 24 press release, the Nevada Gaming Control Board announced an agreement with Kalshi to stop Kalshi’s unlawful operation in Nevada – including penalties if the company fails to comply. Kalshi must implement a solution to prevent “offering or facilitating contracts on sports, election or entertainment-related events” in the state. If Kalshi fails to comply by August 12, they face a
penalty of $120,000 per day until they complete the implementation. READ MORE
Maryland Embraces Efficiency with Single Application Portal Maryland launched a single digital application portal one year ago. According to Route Fifty on July 21, the portal gained 500,000 users in 12 months – and helped residents receive assistance more efficiently. The portal enables people to apply one time for any of five programs: Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, energy assistance and Women, Infants and Children. Before the change, applicants visited Department of Health Offices to apply for each separately. READ MORE
State Cyberthreat Intelligence
Sharing Proposed in Bill An intelligence authorization bill includes provisions for a cyberthreat intelligence sharing pilot program for state and local governments. Under the pilot program, according to CyberScoop on July 21, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence chooses a state to get monthly briefings from the ODNI, as well as the FBI and others on “timely, specific, and actionable information regarding cyber threats.” The bill requires the ODNI to create a strategy for sharing that information, as well as for assessing how states currently share that type of information.
