2024 Update to Universal Licensing Reforms in the United States A survey of universal licensing in the United States tallies the number of states with universal licensing, and reviews trends and common practices, according to the Knee Regulatory Research Center. A follow up to a 2022 publication, the Policy Brief: 2024 Update to the Survey of Universal Licensing Reforms reveals that “26 states have passed universal licensing recognition reforms since 2013, with eight new states passing the reform since the last edition of this report, and eight states significantly expanding the reforms over time.” The report also provides a map of the United States,
color coded to indicate universal license recognition states. READ MORE
Audit of Neb. DHHS Child Care Aid Program Reveals as Much As $12.8M in Improper Payments An audit of Nebraska’s child care assistance program, issued on July 8, revealed as much as $12.8 million in improper payments to child care providers. According to the Nebraska Examiner on July 9, State Auditor Mike Foley stated, “some of the spurious billings were so wildly excessive that one wonders whether anyone at DHHS took even the most cursory glance at them before authorizing their payment.” READ MORE
Pa. Exempts Hair Braiders from Regulatory
Oversight The Pennsylvania State Senate passed a bill on June 27 that frees braiders from the current requirement of 300 hours of formal instruction. The bill now heads to Gov. Josh Shapiro for a signature. Thirty-three states now exempt hair braiders from licensing requirements, according to the Institute for Justice. READ MORE
